GUNTHER & CHRISTINE HOLTORF
When Gunther Holtorf left Germany and started driving, Ronald Reagan was president of the United States. The Cold War was in its final years, the Gulf War years away. Germany was composed of two parts. There was no such thing as an iPhone.
When he finished, Barack Obama was president. The Giants won their third World Series in five years. People were uploading video to YouTube at a rate of 300 hours per minute.
Over the course of the nearly 3 decades, Gunther and Christine Holdorf trekked their way over the better part of the globe. They were down in the mud, out on the plains, up in the mountains. They traveled in a 1988 Mereces G-Class wagon nicknamed "Otto." They did it without sponsorships, and without accolades on Facebook or Instagram. Where they went, Otto went, and vice versa.
