El Cosmico in Marfa is just one of those places it is hard not to romanticize. Whenever friends comes back from West Texas I love to hear their varying opinions on the nomadic camp setup. I have yet to stay there, the most we have done is wandered through the property on our way through Marfa a couple of years ago, but someday I will get out there and actually stay in one of the infamous teepees. I have heard that the compound offers some pretty stellar night sky viewing along with an effortlessly bohemian setting to hang out with friends.
When the Bunkhouse holiday gift guide email came across my inbox this week - my eyes lit up. They had tons of awesome gift ideas from all of their hotels (El Cosmico, Hotel Havana, San Jose Hotel and Hotel St. Cecilia) but if someone got me this yurt for Christmas, it would be game over. Billed as "the ultimate gift for the nomadic adventurer in your life who has (almost) everything" – I have to agree. Best present, ever?! The authentic hand painted 21' Mongolian yurt comes with two super soft custom serape El Cosmico robes and a gift certificate for a two night stay at El Cosmico. Admittedly it is way outside of my price range, but there are plenty of other nomad gift ideas like the brass eye bottle opener, hand dyed Bolivian blanket or (a personal favorite) a bundle of copal incense, to keep you dreaming of a wandering lifestyle.
