Pinterest Announces Place Pins

Pinterest Steps Into The Travel Market

Pinterest announced their new Place pins on their blog this evening, allowing pinners to more effectively utilize their collections surrounding travel plans and wanderlists.

Pinterest said, "About a year ago, we noticed Pinners creating more and more boards around the vacations theyโ€™re planning, special places near where they live and sites they want to see someday. In fact, every day people Pin about 1.5 million places, and now there are more than 750 million Pins of these destinations on Pinterest. We asked ourselves, how can we help people turn their travel inspiration into reality? Today, weโ€™re taking a first step toward that goal with Place Pins."

I took a few minutes to set up my Austin City Guide board with the new maps functionality โ€“ and I like it so far โ€“ a lot.  I've been hoping for mapping functionality since I joined Pinterest.  I've always used the boards as a way to plan for a trip or curate city guides to the places I know well.  The best part is the maps are easily viewed in your browser, on a phone or any mobile device, making them easy to take with you on your travels and easy to share!
